SHUN-EN MANO
HISTORY
- Born June 25, 1950
- Carver representing Tokoname
- His father is the 1st SHUN-EN of a master craftsman of Tokoname
- In 1974, at the age of 24, He succeeded to 2nd SHUN-EN's name
Once, his father "the 1st SHUN-EN" created the new world of Shudei (red clay) kyusu with own carving skill.
He (2nd SHUN-EN) creates a different new world of teapot and teaware from his father with his excellent unique sense.
He developed a technique of "Sukashi-bori/Openwork carving" that nobody could done it in Tokoname. And, he maked all the carving tool for openwork by himself.
Normally in Tokoname, the carver do only sculpture, and the kyusu teapot is made by teapot craftsman.
However, he is a carver, but he produces everything from pottery clay to teapot and strainer by himself.
Such craftsman are very rare and valuable.
Also, he has studied the utility of teapots for long time,
For example, by slightly bending the spout of the teapot, the user can pour tea into the same spot even if the amount of water in the teapot changes. And it is made so that water does not drip from the spout.
That commitment is his pride and policy.
