Product Description
The term “guri” means “bended” and guricha usually refers to tamaryokucha that has been steamed instead of pan-fired (kama-iri, like Chinese green teas).
This guricha is made of 3 type of KABUSE-CHA from Ota Shigeki Seicha is for Heritage grade tea.
Kabuse-cha, sometimes called Kabuse Sencha, is a tea that lies in between gyokuro and sencha. It is shaded for approximately one week after the leaves bud. Shading the tea leaves cuts out the sunlight that reaches the plant and forces the plant to retain more L-theanine (creating the savory umami flavor), and reduces catechins (the antioxidant which produces astringency). This results in a balanced tea that is rich and savory.
HISTORY
Tamaryokucha (literally “ball green tea”) is a type of sencha that skips the very last part of the rolling process that extends the leaves into needles. As a result the leaves as they dry will curl slightly. Traditionally, it was this process that was used when export sencha to Russia during the 1930s. At first, this was done in order to imitate Chinese gunpowder green teas, and was a huge hit in Russia, then Morocco where it was drunk with mint (as is done today primarily with Chinese teas).
