Product Description
Konacha may be translated as powdered tea (kona means powder), but it is not actually powder but a tea made up of smallest bits of tea leaves that are left over after processing.
Konacha is known as tea served in sushi restaurants (especially in Edo, Tokyo) due its low cost, quick steeping time, and the bitter taste that erases the flavor of fishiness left in the mouth. However, it must be distinguished from funmatsucha, powdered tea, that is often served at a kaiten-zushi. Although konacha is small like powder, it is still tea leaves so the leaves remain in a tea cup or teapot after steeping, unlike the powdered tea in which the powder dissolves in hot water. Bamboo strainer was used to for steeping konacha but this custom is not seen so much today.
